APIRA Adelaide 2001 - Emerging Scholars' Colloquium

Emerging Scholars' Colloquium


    This will be a one day forum for doctoral research degree students, new faculty and emerging researchers. Participants will have the opportunity to discuss their research with peers and senior research faculty who will be leading the proceedings. Space will be limited, so applications for entry to the colloquium will be competitively assessed.

Colloquium Objectives

  • To provide participants with research and mentoring in the fields and methodologies relevant to the APIRA 2001 conference.

  • To provide networking opportunities between emerging scholars.

  • To provide opportunities for emerging scholars to present their current work for discussion in a small group setting.

Colloquium Site

    The colloquium will be held in the ground floor seminar and meeting rooms of the School of Commerce adjacent to the main conference site. Both these venues form parts of the Adelaide University campus in the heart of the city, close to all city centre facilities - shops, cafes, hotels, banks, etc.

    The School of Commerce is situated in Security House, 233 North Terrace, Adelaide. North Terrace is Adelaide's so-called "cultural promenade" containing the Adelaide University main entrance, the Art Gallery of South Australia, the South Australian Museum, the State Library, the State Governor's Residence and the State Parliament.

Colloquium Program

    Plenary addresses and panels will be presented by participating senior faculty on a range of subjects which will include :

    • areas of research need and opportunity
    • research proposals and funding sources
    • management of research and publishing projects
    • personal research agenda management

    Senior faculty will also lead groups in discussion of participants' own research work-in-progress or plans which will be presented in small supportive group settings.

    Further opportunities for informal exchanges will occur over lunch and the evening dinner that closes the colloquium.

Eligibility for Participation

    Registrations for this colloquium will be limited.

    Applicants must meet the following criteria and requirements:

    1. Be currently registered for or have recently completed a Masters or PhD in subject areas covered by or related to the themes of this conference and the research published by Accounting, Auditing and Accountability Journal.

      OR

    2. Be a university lecturer who has completed a Masters or PhD degree in the last 5 years and who has commenced or is commencing research in the subject areas as specified in 1. above.

      OR

    3. Be a university lecturer who in the past three years has changed research directions and entered the subject areas as specified in 1. above.

      AND, in addition to one of the above,

    4. Be prepared to make a brief presentation of some part of their current work to a small group session for discussion by the group.

    Those applicants selected for participation must also register for the main APIRA 2001 conference (at their own expense).

Upon Acceptance

    Participants accepted for the Emerging Scholars' Colloquium will be required to email to aaaj@commerce.adelaide.edu.au in MS Word file, a 500 word summary of the study, issue or work-in-progress report they will be presenting for small group discussion. This file must reach the AAAJ office no later than 15 June 2001.

    In addition, they should bring 10 printed copies for distribution to participants at the actual colloquium.

    PLEASE NOTE: A paper accepted for presentation in the APIRA 15-17 July 2001 conference is not eligible for presentation in this small group discussion session.

Colloquium Fee

    A fee of $A30 will be applicable to those applicants accepted for participation in the emerging scholars' colloquium.

    It will be payable as part of your main conference registration - refer registration form for APIRA conference elsewhere under "Conference Registration" on this website.

    Attendance at both the Friday 13/7/00 evening dinner and the Saturday 14/7/00 evening dinner are essential for participants to benefit from interaction and relationship building with peers and faculty. Participants will pay for their own food and drink at these dinners, but the cafes selected are very reasonably priced - expected per head cost of food and drink is approximately $A20 per head for each dinner.
