About the Conference

Scope

This interdisciplinary accounting conference will be dedicated to the advancement of accounting knowledge and practice and provide a forum concerning the interaction between accounting/auditing and their social, economic, institutional and political environments.

Conference sessions and papers will critique contemporary theory and practice, examine historical and interdisciplinary dimensions of accounting and debate policy alternatives. We shall explore new perspectives for understanding and change in the accounting discipline.

Past Conferences

This conference rotates on a three year cycle with the Interdisciplinary Perspectives on Accounting conference (Manchester, UK) and the Critical Perspectives on Accounting conference (New York, USA) which have provided an international forum and showcase for research on the social, political and institutional aspects of accounting theory and practice.

The first Asian-Pacific Interdisciplinary Research in Accounting Conference was held at the University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia in 1995. The second Asian Pacific Interdisciplinary Research in Accounting Conference was held at Osaka City University, Japan. The details of that conference can still be accessed on internet at http://www3.bus.osaka-cu.ac.jp/apira98/.

Conference Format

The organizers aim to encourage discussion, debate and the interchange of ideas in an informal atmosphere. We are planning to present plenary sessions, parallel panel sessions on selected themes and issues, and research paper presentations.

Research paper presentations will take the following general form:

    I. Major Presentations:

    • authors' paper will be available through this website to all conference participants in advance of the conference for prereading.
    • a discussant will open each presentation session by presenting a brief summary and critique of each paper.
    • each author will offer a brief response to the discussant.
    • the paper will then be opened to general discussion.

    II. Forum Presentations:

    • authors' paper will be available through this website to all conference participants in advance of the conference for prereading.
    • each author will present a 10 minute summary of their paper.
    • the session chair will then open general discussion of presented papers by those attending the session.
