MANAGEMENT

Management is the process of administering and coordinating an organisation’s resources and operations efficiently and effectively in order to achieve organisational and individual goals.  Increasingly, it is recognised that the quality of management in organisations is a key factor; influencing not just the well being of the organisation’s immediate stakeholders, but also the well-being (social, environmental, and economic) of the society as a whole.  Accordingly, the development of a nation’s current and future managers is regarded as a top priority by governments and policy-makers across the world.

The program of study that makes up the Bachelor of Commerce (Management) is designed to build students’ core competencies in the following key areas:

  • the foundations of management;
  • organisational behaviour;
  • human resource management;
  • strategic management; international management;
  • knowledge, innovation and change management.

The delivery of the program using a range of teaching methods (lectures, discussion groups, case study analysis, video training, field research exercises etc.) provides students with a valuable understanding of the reciprocal relationship that exists between management theory and practice.

The Bachelor of Commerce (Management) provides students with a valuable foundation for a career in management, in large, small and medium sized enterprises; in the public, private, or not-for-profit sectors; in Australia and abroad.  It can also be used as a platform from which to pursue career development opportunities in other areas. In short, the Bachelor of Commerce (Management) is a degree that provides students with considerable scope for the development of an interesting and satisfying career, along with the opportunity to ‘make a difference’ to the world of work for which it prepares them.

The School of Commerce now also offers the Master of Commerce (Performance Management) which has been designed to provide business and non-business degree graduates with the opportunity to further their management qualifications and experience.  This Masters program aims to equip students with the knowledge to manage performance at the organisational, strategic and individual levels. Graduates of the undergraduate and postgraduate management programs will be eligible for membership of the Australian Institute of Management and the Australian Human Resources Institute.
