School Induction (all students)

This page is designed to assist new students with your induction to the School and help you enrol into courses. Before enrolling you are strongly encouraged to attend a compulsory Enrolment / Orientation Session that will include general information about the Business School, the various Commerce pathways, plagiarism issues, support services (e.g. Barr Smith Library, the Language and Learning Service, Career’s Service) and information about how to contact staff (professional and academic).

All new students are still expected to attend one of the Enrolment sessions and (if necessary) make an appointment with a Course Adviser after the session to clarify any enrolment issues.

What elective can I study?

You can enrol in any course as an elective. Providing you undertake all required core courses for your program, you may choose to take electives from the following areas: Commerce, Economics, Design Studies, Humanities and Social Sciences, Science, Mathematical and Computer Science, or more.

To scan what is available you can view the Course Planner (search by subject area) or the Undergraduate Calendar. Below you will find a selection of popular electives.

Once again please consider the level of the elective and any pre-requisites or assumed knowledge when making your choice.

Prepare, Prepare, Prepare!
Preparing a timetable plan for semesters 1 and 2 will save you lots of time. The easiest way to do this is to view the Undergraduate program entry requirements and print a Class Planner for you to schedule your studies. This process will ensure you are prepared before you log onto Access Adelaide to enrol.

Online enrolment problems?

Errors may occur for a variety of reasons - because you are trying to add a class that is full, you are trying to add a class that clashes or you are overloading. If you receive an error message your enrolment in that class will not be processed. Need help? You can complete the online Enrolment Error form with details of the problem, or contact the Enrolment Hotline on 8303 3833 for assistance.

Are you a concerned Parent?

Parents can play an important role in helping their children to make sound career and study choices.

  • Recognise your child's strengths and interests.
  • Encourage your child to have goals. Students with a sense of direction are more likely to be motivated toward their study.
  • Assist them in finding out information on a wide range of career choices and study opportunities.
  • Be flexible and encourage your child to accept that there are plenty of opportunities.

Don't panic! There are many people and resources to help you with initial choices and subsequent changes. Start with the Parent's guide to University website.
