24 Degree Structure

From 2008 the courses within the Bachelor of Commerce, Economics, Finance and Business Information Technology degrees will become 24-course degrees. This will be done by changing the unit value of Level II and Level III courses to 3 units.

The new 24-course degree will be;

Level I - Eight 3 unit courses (no change from 20-course degree)

Level II - Eight 3 unit courses (changed from six, 4 unit courses) - commencing 2009

Level III - Eight 3 unit courses (changed from six, 4 unit courses) - commencing 2010

Total units for the 3-year degrees will remain at 72 units

The reasons for the change include:

  • Increased flexibility for students
  • To align the structure of these Adelaide degrees with those of the other G08 Australian universities
  • Improved ability to include study from a number of disciplines
  • An increase in the courses offered in some disciplines

How does this affect continuing students?

The changes to the degrees should not affect continuing students, provided you meeting the following conditions;

  • commenced your degree in 2007 or prior
  • complete your second year courses before 2009 and

If you meet the above conditions, please ensure you follow the study plans below.

Enrolment

Prepare, Prepare, Prepare

Before logging onto Access Adelaide, read through the above information on the transition to 24-course degree program, view the study plans and check the Course Planner for available lecture and tutorial times. Spend time preparing a timetable plan for semesters 1 and 2. The easiest way to do this is to download and print a Study Plan and Class Planner for you to schedule your studies. Firstly, note your lecture details (these times aren't going to change) and then note a couple of suitable tutorial details for each course. This process will ensure you are prepared before you log onto Access Adelaide to enrol.

For clear step by step instructions on how to enrol online visit the /enrol website

You are encouraged to enrol as early as possible to secure your preferred classes as enrolments are on a first in basis.

If you intend to take a break from your studies for one or two semesters, you need to apply for Leave of Absence from your course. Check the Forms for Students page for the Leave of Absence application.

Online enrolment problems?

Errors may occur for a variety of reasons - because you are trying to add a class that is full, you are trying to add a class that clashes or you are overloading. If you receive an error message your enrolment in that class will not be processed.

Need help? You can complete the online Enrolment Error form with details of the problem, or contact the Enrolment Hotline on 8303 3833 for assistance.

Check that you satisfy the assumed knowledge and pre-requisites for any courses you plan to take. We will be running checks and students who don't have required pre-requisites will be withdrawn. Prerequisites and Assumed knowledge are noted in the Course Planner and are listed in the Course Description section of the Business School (Undergraduate) Handbook.

Student Email

All information from the Business School will be sent via email. It is essential you either check your student email address daily, or redirect your student email to your preferred email address (work or home) to ensure you are kept up to date.

Follow these instructions if you wish to redirect your student email.
