Enrolment Hints

Remember to use the Enrolment Error Form if you encounter problems during enrolment.

Prepare, Prepare, Prepare
Preparing a timetable plan for semesters 1 and 2 will save you lots of time. The easiest way to do this is to download and print the Class Planner (doc 52kB) (copies also available from the Commerce Front Office) so that you can schedule your studies. Firstly, note your lecture details as these times aren't going to change. Then note a couple of suitable tute details for each course. This process will ensure you are prepared before you log onto Access Adelaide to enrol.

Frequently asked questions

There are more FAQ's on the enrol web site.

What course should I enrol in?

Use the study plans (above) or, if you are a new student, the advice given to you at the Enrolment Information Session as a guide to what courses you need to enrol into. Requirements of the Bachelor of Commerce pathways (Accounting, Corporate Finance, International Business, Marketing and Management) and Bachelor of Business Information Technology degree are explained. If you would like your enrolment checked please present a copy of your enrolment to the front office. Your enrolment will be reviewed and you will be notified via email advising:
  • if any changes are needed, or
  • confirmation of your enrolment.

New Students
If there is any possibility that you may decide to pursue the Accounting pathway, our advice to you is that you enrol in the first year courses displayed under "Accounting Study Pathway". This will leave your options open for ALL pathways and truly enable you to decide at the end of your first year whether you wish to pursue accounting or another pathway.

All students
Check that you satisfy the assumed knowledge and pre-requisites for any courses you plan to take. We will be running checks and students who don't have required pre-requisites will be withdrawn. Prerequisites and Assumed knowledge are noted in the Course Planner.

Important: Bachelor of Commerce and the Bachelor of Wine Marketing

Students enrolled in the Bachelor of Wine Marketing and Bachelor of Commerce are not able to present the following courses towards the Bachelor of Commerce:

  • Food & Wine Marketing
  • Applied Marketing Research II
  • International Marketing of Wine & Agricultural Products II
  • Consumer Behaviour Analysis
  • Strategic Marketing Management II
  • Advertising & Promotion II

Please make an appointment with a Student Adviser if you are unsure of what courses can and cannot be presented.

What does Commerce or Finance Level II mean?

When you see Commerce or Finance Level II in your study plan, it means you can select any Level II Commerce or Finance course ie. Marketing II, Management II, Financial Computing II.

What elective can I study?

An elective is a non compulsory course that you can select.  There are hundreds of courses you could choose.  You can select courses from the following areas: Commerce, Economics, Design Studies, Humanities and Social Sciences (includes History, Politics, Gender Studies, Work and Social Inquiry, Anthropology, Asian Studies, Media, Philosophy), Science or Mathematical and Computer Sciences.

Basically, you can select to study any course as an elective provided that you satisfy the prerequisite, assumed knowledge and there is no restriction listed on the course.  Prerequisites, Assumed Knowledge and Restrictions are all noted in the Course Planner.

Many level II Humanities and Social Science courses have a prerequisite of '6 units of Level I Humanities and Social Science' courses. If you have passed the first year Economics courses Principles of Microeconomics, BDA and Principles of Macroeconomics you have satisfied the prerequisite. These Economics courses are accepted as part of Humanities and Social Science.

If you are not sure how to select an elective please read the following 'What Elective Can I study (pdf 64kB)?'.

Below you will find a selection of popular electives.

Once again please consider the level of the elective and any required pre-requistes or assumed knowledge when making your choice.

I'm interested in the International Business pathway. What are the 'approved level II Humanities and Social Sciences Courses'?

Please see this list of approved courses (pdf 86kB).

How do I receive credit for courses completed at another tertiary institute?

Do I enrol into a tute or a lecture?

When enrolling in Business School courses you will be enrolling into a tute that will automatically place you into the associated lecture. There is an exception - where there is a repeat lecture stream the above is not automatic. You will need to select the lecture class number after entering the tute class number.

Can I swap my tute time?

You can only swap tutorials up until the end of the second week of each semester and this must be done on-line. Swapping tutes means that you should first check the Course Planner if there is space in the tute you have elected to swap to, then you should immediately drop yourself from the course (i.e lecture/tutorial/workshop - completely delete your enrolment in this course you are in and immediately add yourself into the new tute. If possible, have a few tutes that you are able to swap into.

IMPORTANT: After the second week of semester you cannot add courses to your enrolment.. If you try to swap tutorials, you will not be able to enrol yourself back into the course.

If you're a continuing student and need to change your enrolment, but cannot find an open lecture/tutorial we suggest you wait until the mid-semester break as this is when most students change their enrolment. Be sure to check the continuing student enrolment page for any problems with semester two courses before attempting to change their enrolment.

Where do I find class numbers?

The Course Planner allows you to search all courses that are scheduled in 2008, view all of the classes for each course and to plan your timetable BEFORE you enrol. You can search and view class details for courses one by one or you can add courses to a cart and build up a list of all classes for your courses. You can also print this information if you wish.

*A 'class number' is a five-digit number.

Who can help further?

Errors may occur for a variety of reasons - because you are trying to add a class that is full, you are trying to add a class that clashes or you are overloading. If you receive an error message your enrolment in that class will not be processed.

Need help? You can complete the online Enrolment Error form with details of the problem, or contact the Enrolment Hotline on 8303 3833 for assistance.
