Exchange and Study Abroad Program
The School of Commerce is pleased to encourage students to spend one semester studying at an overseas institution. The University website www.adelaide.edu.au/student/study_abroad/ has additional information about this option. Who can participate?Whilst studying abroad is a formally specified option for students doing the International Business pathway, students undertaking other pathways are not precluded from this opportunity to enhance their degree. Students must have completed at least one year of a University of Adelaide degree. The ideal time to study overseas is in the second semester of second year or the first semester of third year. Selection criteriaSelection for the exchange programs is made on the basis of academic merit and an evaluation of the student's reasons for wanting to participate in the exchange program. Academically, students need to have achieved at least a credit average. Applicants will need to include academic references and a short essay with their application, and to have consulted their Faculty/School about their proposed course of study overseas. Interviews will be conducted. Once a student has been selected by the University of Adelaide for an exchange program, their application is forwarded to the overseas institution for final acceptance. Final approval for admission is at the discretion of the host institution. Discussion with School of CommerceStudents intending to participate in the program should contact the Postgraduate Resource Centre to check eligibility and program criteria. This information is particularly important for students looking to study an equivalent Commerce course overseas. Approval should be sought for more courses than required to give greater flexibility when enrolling at the overseas institution. How to applyStudents apply to the International Office and if approved, students must finalise their study plan in conjunction with the Business School. Application forms are available from the Student Centre, Study Abroad web site (http://www.adelaide.edu.au/student/study_abroad/) or can be downloaded here: How does credit transfer? Before leaving Australia students will be provided with a letter stating the agreed credit arrangement. If students vary their enrolment from the courses agreed with the School of Commerce they must contact Sandra immediately. The onus is on students to contact Sandra and supply new course outlines for review if needed. Having extra courses approved may prove advantageous in confirming a new credit arrangement.
