Communication skills in the School of Commerce
The School is committed to teaching and assessing professional communication
skills essential for graduates across the three levels of its undergraduate degree.
This is in response to calls by the Professional Bodies, as well as a means of
incorporating aspects of the business environment into courses and their assessment.
The School’s policy of integration (see below), rather than a stand-alone
course on Communication for Professionals, reflects current education research
on effective learning. As the linked web-site
indicates, we can’t assume that skills learned in one context are readily
transferred to a new context1. The Communication
Skills Guide for Commerce Students, however, is provided to show what Commerce
staff expect of you in their undergraduate assignments, and how you can meet the
required standards.
The printed Guide is available free from the School Office (ground floor of
Security House, 233 North Tce).
To use Communication Skills Guide online view the contents
list and download the specific pdf files you need, or skim through the
complete electronic version (600KB,
70 pages) to see what is relevant to your assignment before downloading the section
you want.
